Blake Shelton landed the help of a music legend for the next season of The Voice. The country star announced via Twitter that Bette Midler joined Team Blake as a mentor.
Shelton asked his fans to guess who his special mentor would be, but it didn’t take long.
Midler also couldn’t wait to share the excitement.
Midler makes a great mentor for young singers. The “Wind Beneath My Wings” singer earned her success the hard way. She built up a following at local clubs and starred in small productions before making it to the big time in the late 60s.
An American icon in music, film and stage, Midler has sold over 35 million records worldwide. Over the years, she’s landed three Grammys, three Emmys, four Golden Globes and a Tony. If anybody can help contestants on The Voice handle their nerves and deliver a clutch performance, it’s Midler.
In an interview with Extra, Midler praised Shelton’s coaching skills. “Now I’m in your presence and I see how you’re so encouraging and you’re very warm,” Midler said to Shelton. “The people who come through here feel like you’re rooting for them, and I feel that’s really important — it lets them relax.”
Although Midler has been one of Shelton’s longtime idols, he revealed he never met her before the show. “I actually use my position here on ‘The Voice’ to meet people who I want to meet,” the star joked.
