Rachael Mattice, the 24-year-old woman who went missing in New York on June 22, has reappeared safely and in good health. Mattice’s disappearance made national news when her family reached out to her idol Shania Twain, who asked her fans for help finding Mattice.
According to WKTV News, Rachael’s mom heard a doorbell ring at 12:45 a.m. on July 6. To her surprise, Rachael was standing on the other side of the door. Her mom immediately called authorities with the good news.
Mysteriously, there aren’t many answers as to why or how she disappeared in the first place. Mattice says she was dropped off and walked a block or two to the house. She told police that she had been held against her will for nearly two weeks, and though she was being cooperative, police say they have very little information to determine who exactly took her.
State Police Captain Robert Patnaude says officials and detectives have been investigating her disappearance furiously since it happened in June. “We started obviously with ex-boyfriends, family members, acquaintances, parolees in the area, sex offenders,” says Patnaude. “We’ve interviewed everyone we could, trying to find out what happened to her that night.”
When police do have information they can release to the public, Patnaude says they will. There’s a chance they may once again need help in determining just what happened to Mattice.
Twain has yet to comment on Rachael Mattice’s safe return, though there’s no doubt she’s relieved, along with Mattice’s family and friends.
