Miranda Lambert is asking fans to help raise money in honor of a fallen K-9 officer from her hometown.
On Jan. 19, citizens of Lindale, Texas were shocked by the news that their beloved K-9 officer Ogar lost his life while in the line of duty.
“Ogar was tracking one of the 3 subjects in a wooded area when he was shot,” a post shared on Lambert’s official Facebook page read. “K-9 officer Ogar was utilized throughout East Texas on many law enforcement cases. Ogar, along with his handler Deputy Constable Kevin Petty, assisted in drug seizures, search and rescues as well as suspect apprehensions.”
The post goes on to say the 2 ½-year-old Belgian Malinois “…served with Smith County Precinct 5 for 1 ½ years and was certified in Search and Rescue, Narcotics and Attack and Protection.”
Lambert’s MuttNation Foundation, which seeks to “end animal cruelty, neglect, and homelessness,” has stepped in to help raise funds in honor of the brave Belgian Malinois. The organization is collecting money in order to help Smith County Precinct 5 acquire another K-9 unit.
All funds donated to the organization through Feb. 22 will be dedicated to the cause.
Those who live in or near Lindale can visit any Southside Bank location and donate to the foundation in Ogar’s name. Otherwise, donations can be mailed by check to MuttNation Foundation, PO Box 1270, Lindale, Texas, 75771, or sent online through MuttNation Foundation’s official website.
