Fans in attendance for Ashley Monroe‘s concert in Nashville over the weekend got a very special surprise.
During her show at City Winery on Nov. 20, Monroe shocked the crowd by bringing onto the stage her longtime friend and Pistol Annies bandmate Miranda Lambert. The two performed a special duet version of Monroe’s current single, “The Blade.”
Before the memorable moment began, Monroe took a second to recognize her longtime musical collaborator and friend before bringing her out in front of the crowd. “I just released a record this year called The Blade, and I’m gonna do that song,” An excited Monroe told the audience. “I’m gonna have the special guest vocalist that sang on that song on the record with me sing it, for the first time live, really, ever. So here’s little miss Miranda Lambert!”
The crowd erupted into a wave of cheers and applause as Lambert took the mic next to Monroe. Their flawless harmonies supplied a new depth and haunting tone to the already heartbreaking track.
In July, Lambert was the surprise guest at Monroe’s album release show at the Basement East in Nashville. The two performed an emotional version of Lambert’s hit track “Heart Like Mine” just days after her high-profile divorce from Blake Shelton.
In a recent interview, Monroe said that she predicts Pistol Annies reunion will happen “soon.” Until then, watch the video below to see two of the most talented women in country music perform to a very excited crowd in the Music City.
