Miranda Lambert has received some backlash from her fans after sharing a photo of her new full-length fur coat.
The coat was a Christmas gift from her grandmother, who she refers to as Nonny. She posed for a photo in the garment which was shared on her Instagram account over the weekend. Fans were quick to share their disappointment over Lambert’s choice of clothing.
“Absolutely disgusting,” one user wrote. “Regardless of being passed down, fur is very antiquated and most people look down on those who wear it.”
“Sad that some people still think wearing a dead animal is fashionable and fancy.'” Another fan posted. “I love your music, Miranda, but ugh.”
The comments section of the photo quickly erupted into a debate between fans about the political correctness of Lambert’s newest fashion statement.
The next day, Lambert shared another photo of her grandmother with a message that further explained the importance that the piece of clothing held for her personally.
“Her name embroidered inside is priceless,” Lambert wrote in the photo’s caption. “A family heirloom I will cherish forever. I’m so thankful for her and all the things I have learned from her. Nonny is strong, beautiful, feisty and most of all, loving.”
So far, the comments posted on her most recent Instagram have been overwhelmingly supportive. Many say that the criticisms directed at Lambert seem mostly unfounded, as her own MuttNation Foundation has raised millions of dollars in support of caring for unwanted animals since 2007.
