The two connected over a discussion of their love for mutual friend Ashley Monroe, who just released a new album, The Blade.
“Hey @mirandalambert can u believe there’s people who haven’t bought @ashleymonroe new album? Isn’t that shocking?!!” Shelton wrote. Soon after, Lambert responded with “no I can’t because it is the best work she’s ever done! I love it. We love you @ashleymonroe.” Shelton had no issues with Lambert referring to them in a group statement, and made that clear with his simple response of “yes we do.”
The exchange was surprising to many as rumors have been swirling about the cause of the country power-couple’s sudden split. Some fans wondered if it the exchange wasn’t anything more than a PR move in support of Monroe, and Shelton even chose to bluntly address a few tweets that accused them of having less than genuine conversations on the popular social media platform. A short time later, Lambert even poked fun at a recent photo of Shelton pushing a baby stroller, saying “I knew it…. You WERE pregnant! This calls for a drink!” Take a look through the gallery above to see how Shelton responded.
The series of tweets marks the first time the two have interacted on social media since their divorce on July 20. “This is not the future we envisioned,” their representatives said in a statement, according to the Tennessean. “And it is with heavy hearts that we move forward separately. We are real people, with real lives, with real families, friends and colleagues. Therefore, we kindly ask for privacy and compassion concerning this very personal matter.”
