According to KFDM, 81-year-old Gilley and his son, Michael, were involved in a collision just outside of Lufkin, Texas on Wednesday, Jan. 3. The pair were on their way to Branson, Mo., where Gilley owns and performs at his own theater, when a car ran a stop sign in front of them. The Gilley’s vehicle was clipped by the car, causing their SUV to flip over multiple times before rolling into a median.

Gilley has kept a relatively low profile since 2009, when he crushed four vertebrae when a piece of furniture fell on top of him while helping a friend move. The incident caused him to become temporarily paralyzed, but physical therapy has helped him to walk and perform again.

Most recently, Gilley performed a lengthy set of performances titled the Urban Cowboy Show at his Branson theater with Johnny Lee.
