Meghan Linsey Goes From Country to Soul-Pop With New EP

Meghan Linsey, former member of country duo Steel Magnolia, is releasing a new EP featuring a more soulful and pop-oriented sound.

The Season 8 runner-up of NBC’s The Voice recorded her newest project, Believer, in Nashville, Tenn. with producer Tyler Cain. Cain has previously worked with Ashley Monroe and Big & Rich.

Believer is Linsey’s first solo project since her former professional and romantic partner, Joshua Scott Jones, entered rehab for drug addiction in 2014, causing Steel Magnolia to be disbanded. Linsey told Rolling Stone Country that the process of creating her new EP was focused on finding her voice as a solo artist.

“I grew up singing soul music, and then I moved to Nashville,” Linsey explained. “I just always tried to put a soulful spin on what I was doing with Steel Magnolia, and then with my own stuff. And so I feel like that’s really been who I am. It’s just really come out on the show.”

You can hear Linsey’s new sound for yourself when Believer comes out on July 31. If you’re too eager to wait, GhostTunes will make the EP available July 27, for a special reduced price .

Believer tracklisting:

  1. “Counterfeit”
  2. “Believer”
  3. “Sunshine in My Soul”
  4. “This Side of Heaven”
  5. “Everything Is Happening”
  6. “Best of Me”
