Luke Combs Makes $10,000 Donation to Hurricane Harvey Victims

Country singer Luke Combs is donating $10,000 to Samaritan's Purse to help those affected by historic Hurricane Harvey.

"The devastation that has and is still happening in Texas tears at my heart," Combs shared on his Instagram account. "I have lived through a hurricane in North Carolina and seen the aftermath of such an event."

The rising artists also encouraged others to donate as well. "I've been given the opportunity to have a platform to help and I am doing such," he explained. "So if you can help a little too, please do. Truly, each of us can really make a difference."

Hurricane Harvey decimated the Texas Gulf Coast over the weekend. Although it's been downgraded to a tropical storm, it is currently stalled over Houston. Average annual rainfall for Houston is around 50 inches, but some areas received that much in less than 24 hours. Part of Beltway 8 was washed away, and the levee at Columbia Lakes was breached.

The catastrophic flooding prompted officials to open the Addicks and Barker floodgates. It was an unprecedented move that allowed more water to flow into Buffalo Bayou, an area that is already prone to flooding. The death count is about 14 right now, including a family of six who were washed away in their vehicle while trying to escape the flood waters.

Currently, the rain is still pounding Houston, and is predicted to continue over the next few days.

Ironically, weather is a common theme in Combs' music. Last year his hit single, "Hurricane" reached No. 3 on the U.S. Country chart and was certified platinum. This year he released "When It Rains, It Pours," which is currently charting at No. 8 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs list.

Several country stars have been making generous donations to the hurricane relief effort. Most notably, Chris Young opened a Gofundme page to raise money for the American Red Cross. He made the first donation of $100,000.

Lady Antebellum, Josh Abbott Band, and Bobby Bones have also pledged contributions to hurricane victims.
