See Rising Artist Luke Bell Put a Western Spin on John Lennon’s ‘Jealous Guy’

While sitting on a front porch and armed with his acoustic guitar, rising artist Luke Bell gives John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” a little mountain magic in his new cover.

Bell is one of the most promising and exciting new country artists right now. His 2016 self-titled album is being hailed as one of the best of the year. He has a voice that evokes the 1970s, but in his new cover, he’s taking on a 70s pop classic.

“Jealous Guy” was originally written under the titled of “Child of Nature.” Later, Lennon gave it a complete lyrical overhaul and changed the name to “Jealous Guy.” The song was a track on 1971’s Imagine, but was never released as a single until after his death. Roxy Music released a cover of the song in 1980 which hit No. 1 in the U.K.

With Bell’s cover, we love how (about two minutes in), he whistles the interlude just like Lennon did in his original version.

The 26-year-old singer is a former Wyoming ranch hand. Bell has actually lived the cowboy country lifestyle, making the music he sings feel all the more authentic.

Bell has been praised for his rich baritone vocals, impeccable songwriting skills and fresh take on the honky-tonk genre. We only see his star rising from here!

You can currently catch him on tour through the end of the year.
