Although his life and career was cut short, Jim Reeves‘ smooth and silky voice is still winning over new generations of country fans.

In 1964, Reeves’ international popularity had reached new heights. After gaining success in the 1950s with his instantly recognizable baritone voice, the Texas-born crooner became an early purveyor of the new “Nashville sound” in the early 1960s.

His 1964 hit, “I Love You Because”, is a sweeping ballad that’s filled with romantic lyrics, driven by guitar and light piano. Although the single was moderately successful upon release in the States, it hit the top of the charts in both Norway and Ireland. In fact, Reeves was one of the first country artists to bring the genre into the international spotlight.

Sadly, Reeves tragically lost his life at the age of 40 in a plane crash outside of Nashville – just a few months after the release of “I Love You Because”. Although country music lost one of its best artists that fateful day, Reeves’ impressive catalog of music has cemented him as one of the most influential artists of his time.
