In recent weeks, the news has been filled with coverage of massive wildfires spreading across nearly 12,000 acres of Southern California.
It’s hard to fathom the emotions that emerge when you have an up-close and personal encounter these huge flames. Over the past few years, Los Angeles photographer Stuart Palley has made it his mission to document the terror and beauty of these raging wildfires.
In his Terra Flamma photography series, Palley doesn’t just focus on the flames themselves; he takes a long-exposure of the entire environment, helping capture beautiful shots that look like they were pulled from a movie scene.
These incredible images show just how immense of an area these fires can affect at one time. His use of longer exposures help portray some of the most beautiful parts of nature the naked eye can easily miss.
Thanks to Palley’s skills as a photographer, he was able to capture the billowing smoke mimicking a tornado and the beautiful light trail of a firefighting aircraft circling above the burning shores of Lake Isabella, Calif.
