Little Big Town just released the video for “Happy People,” and it’s sure to have you grinning, too. The new music video accompanies the feel-good single off the band’s recent record, The Breaker.
In the clip, Karen Fairchild, Philip Sweet, Jimi Westbrook and Kimberly Schlapman take turns with some camera face time while singing the tune. But the real stars of the video are all the strangers shedding a smile.
The simple concept features dozens of strangers from all walks of life. Young, old, men, women, black, white — it doesn’t matter. They’re all just a bunch of happy people sharing infectious smiles.
And the very beginning features an adorable little boy. A voice off camera asks him what makes him happy. “Fishing with my dad and playing in the water,” he says. Then the video kicks off its beautiful and simple message.
The song really isn’t too complicated. “Do whatever puts a smile on your face,” Fairchild sings in the chorus. “Whatever makes you happy, people.”
Lori McKenna and Hailey Whitters wrote “Happy People.” McKenna appears plenty of times throughout Little Big Towns’ catalog (including three more times on The Breaker), but the song represents a huge first for relative newcomer Whitters.
The band recorded The Breaker with producer Jay Joyce, whom they credit for really helping mold their unique new sound. “Happy People” is no exception. The song utilizes a light, carefree organ over simple percussion with a unique blend of the four-piece’s signature harmonies.
Little Big Town first performed the song live at the 2017 ACM awards in Las Vegas earlier this year. Their album, The Breaker, came out in February, immediately going to No. 1 on the charts. And first single “Better Man” became one of the fastest-rising singles in the bands history.
So needless to say, there’s a lot making Little Big Town happy people lately.
