Little Big Town fans will have to wait a little bit longer to see their favorite group return to the stage.
The group posted a video to their Facebook page on July 26, explaining that vocalist Jimi Westbrook “need[ed] a little bit more time to heal up” after recently undergoing surgery for polyps found on his vocal cords. “We’ve wanted to see your faces, we’ve wanted to hear your voices, and we’re very, very sorry that we haven’t been out there,” Member Kimberly Schlapman says in the video.
The band was scheduled to play the Delaware State Fair on July 31, but have now cancelled that date along with all shows through the end of August. Little Big Town originally cancelled all dates from mid-June through July after the initial discovery of Westbrook’s health issue.
“It breaks our hearts to let you guys down, but Jimi’s health is the most important thing, and he is expected to make a full recovery with rest and treatment,” the band previously said in a statement. “We will keep everyone updated on Jimi’s progress. Thanks for your understanding and support.”
In an interview earlier this month, members Phillip Sweet and Kimberly Schlapman updated fans on Westbrook’s ongoing recovery. “For the long term of Little Big Town,” Sweet explained, “this is the best thing.”The group is currently scheduled to perform at the Great Allentown Fair in Allentown, Pa. on September 2.
