Dolly Parton just quietly released a masterful new tune called “Pure and Simple.” The song is the first single off her upcoming album of the same name. Pure & Simple comes out on Aug. 19.
“Pure & Simple” lives up to its name in both musicality and writing. But the song accomplishes its message in an absolutely fitting way. It feels both classic and modern at the same time. Focusing on a unique love that is both, well, pure and simple, the new single centers around a steady upbeat-driven foundation.
Mandolin flourishes move in and out, along with keys and slide guitar. And Dolly wastes no time with her iconic feathery vocal style. And those classic harmonies cue the chorus perfectly.
Parton’s upcoming album is a joint venture between her own record label Dolly Records and Sony Music Nashville. The 10-track album features eight originals and two classic tunes from her time with Porter Wagoner.
Parton is currently on tour supporting the upcoming release. The aptly titled Pure & Simple tour began in late June and runs almost six full months into December. It’s a busy time for Parton, who also has a sequel to her acclaimed Coat of Many Colors TV movie coming out around Christmas.
