Iconic musician Prince was found dead at his home in Paisley Park, Minnesota on Monday.
His publicist confirmed the news to the Associated Press, following a report by TMZ. The cause of death is unknown, but he was hospitalized last week after battling an intense case of the flu.
Prince was a prolific artist who made a tremendous impact on American music. His pioneering blend of rock, funk, pop and R&B. Countless artists throughout the years have been inspired by his music. He first rose to fame in the late 1970s and cemented an iconic place in American culture with his 1984 album Purple Rain.
Prince also wrote a number of songs for other artists, sometimes under pseudonyms. Using the name Joey Coco, he wrote a song for country star Kenny Rogers, “You’re My Love.”
