Kris Kristofferson has been selected to be honored with a special award honoring the musical legacy of the late Woody Guthrie.
The country legend will receive the award during a special ceremony and concert, which will take place Tulsa’s Brady Arts District on Oct. 18. According to MusicRow, Rodney Crowell is among a list of artists that will join Kristofferson on stage for a performance of some of his best-known tracks.
“With over 50 years of social activism as a voice for disenfranchised, Kris was an obvious choice to receive the 2016 Woody Guthrie Prize,” Woody Guthrie Center Executive Director Deana McCloud said in a statement. “It is an honor to recognize his incredible career and tireless work to make positive improvements in our society.”
Some of the proceeds raised from the event will Woody Guthrie Center, which features an array of exhibits that educate visitors on Guthrie’s incredible musical legacy.
Fans who are interested in attending the award ceremony and concert event can purchase tickets beginning June 13 for $50 or $60. You can find more information on ticketing options at Cain’s Ballroom.
