Kris Kristofferson is turning 80 on June 22, and in honor of his legacy a 16-CD box set will be released by Legacy Recordings on June 10. Kris Kristofferson: The Complete Monument & Columbia Album Collection will include some of Kristofferson’s essential studio albums, as well as unreleased demos and rare live recordings.
Out of the 16 albums in the collection, 11 will be re-releases of studio albums from 1970 to 1981 with reproductions of the original album artwork. The remaining five discs are unreleased or extremely rare, and include live performances, demos and outtakes.
The set will also include liner notes and essays written specifically for this release from Monument Records founder Fred Foster, musician and producer Don Was and writer/journalist Mikal Gilmore.
Kris Kristofferson is most well-known for being a pioneer of modern country music, but also served in the US Army, received a Rhodes scholarship and had a successful acting career. He has won several Grammy Awards and is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
