For those looking for the spice of life, you can find it all in a great Nashville Hot Chicken recipe. This type of chicken is a Nashville specialty, and one that will leave your taste buds happy and on fire. In fact, the city loves this chicken so much that it holds an annual Hot Chicken Festival in its honor.

Throughout the city, there are many versions of this chicken, but one of the best comes from Bon Appetit. If you are looking to try this recipe out for yourself, here is what you will need to do.

Ingredients:
2 4 pound chickens, cut into 10 pieces
1 tablespoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons plus 4 tsp kosher salt
4 large eggs
2 cups buttermilk
2 tablespoons Tabasco
4 cups all-purpose flour
Vegetable oil for frying
6 tablespoons cayenne pepper
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika

To put these ingredients together, start by chilling the chicken for about 3 hours. Then, combine eggs, buttermilk and hot sauce in one bowl and flour and 4 tsp salt in another. The chicken is then dredged in flour, followed by the buttermilk and finally in flour again before placing it in hot oil. Fry the chicken for around 15-18 minutes or until skin is crisp and golden brown.

Transfer chicken to baking sheet and allow the oil to cool slightly. Finally, whisk together remaining ingredients and 1 cup frying oil. Brush the fried chicken with the spicy oil. This chicken is best when you serve it with white bread or pickles.

This recipe creates a traditional Nashville hot chicken, which definitely packs on the heat. If you prefer a milder version of this chicken, cut down the cayenne pepper significantly. For milder chicken, you should cut down the cayenne pepper to 2 tablespoons rather than 6.
