It’s a sad day for longtime Kenny Rogers fans. The 77-year-old says he’s ready to step away from the stage at the end of the year.
“It’s sadly happy,” Rogers said during his Sept. 25 appearance on NBC’s Today show. I’ve done this long enough. Sometimes there’s a fine line between being driven and being selfish, and I think I crossed that line when I was younger,” he explained.
Rogers says its time for him to move his focus from music to the people he loves the most. “I really want to be there with my kids and my wife. I don’t see enough of them. And I have some things on my bucket list.”
Before he retires, Rogers will circle the globe one last time for his annual Christmas tour. Beginning on Nov. 11, he’ll visit 26 cities to perform some of his favorite holiday-themed tracks. He just released his sixth holiday album, Once Again It’s Christmas, which features duets with Alison Krauss and Jennifer Nettles.
