Kenny Chesney shared a special moment with a superfan he pulled onstage during a recent performance at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, N.J.
On Aug. 15, Chesney stopped in the middle of his performance of “I Go Back” to bring a fan with Down syndrome onstage. He handed her the microphone and without hesitation she sang along to his 2004 hit. Once the song wrapped up, the young fan whispered something into the country star’s ear.
“She says she wants to say something into the microphone,” Chesney said, then let her have her own moment in the spotlight. “I just want to let you know… Kenny Chesney’s my true love,” she admitted. “He inspires me, and right now, I want to kiss him on the lips. Do you want to see it?”
Her question drew cheers and screams from the crowd, and Chesney quickly made her wish come true. After a moment of bewilderment, the girl takes back the microphone to discuss what Chesney’s music really means to her.
“His music got me through the toughest times. The reason why I want to be on the stage was because my grandfather’s dream was to see me up here, to sing with Kenny,” she explained. “Do you want to see me sing more with Kenny Chesney? Because I’ve been doing it for 24 years …”
The crowd went wild, and it was easy to see that Chesney was moved by her story.
“That’s why we write songs right there!” Chesney responded, then shared a hug with the fan before they began to sing his recent single, “Wild Child”.
“That young woman had so much heart, so much spirit,” Chesney said of his special guest, according to the Boot. “She was just fearless and true and wanted to tell people what was on her mind. Talk about inspiring all of us about how to live our lives.”
Chesney’s 2015 The Big Revival Tour will continue through the end of August. A full list of upcoming dates is available at his official website.
