Country newcomer Kelsea Ballerini will be honored with the Rising Star award at Billboard’s upcoming Women in Music event.
Billboard just announced that Ballerini, who’s currently climbing the charts with her sophomore single “Dibs”, will be taking home the prestigious title awarded to those “whose success on the Billboard charts and talent demonstrate a clear path to success.”
The star also revealed the exciting news on her official Twitter page, telling her almost 58,000 followers that she was “so honored” by the news. “I have been so excited to share this news with Yall,” she wrote on the social media site on November 11th, adding “I am SO honored [sic].”
In addition, the “Love Me Like You Mean It” hitmaker is also expected to perform her debut single at the show next month in New York City on Dec. 11.
“At 22, Kelsea Ballerini already has a career to kill for, from a hit song to award nominations and even a stop at the famed Grand Ole Opry,” Janice Min, co-president and chief creative officer of Guggenheim Media’s Entertainment Group, told Billboard magazine following the announcement.
“Much like Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift before, Kelsea is a powerful songwriter and singer that has Nashville a buzz. Expertly bridging the pop-country gap, her songs have heart and it is only the beginning,” Janice added.
“Love Me Like You Mean It” recently became the first debut single by a female artist to hit #1 on Billboard’s Country Airplay chart since Underwood took the top spot with her multi-platinum hit “Jesus, Take The Wheel” back in 2006.
Billboard’s Women in Music Event is set to air on Dec. 18th on Lifetime.
