The former American Idol contestant and Dancing with the Stars champion aims to entertain in a new reality series on CMT.
Known for her quirky personality and southern charm, Kellie Pickler will star in a new series produced by none other than American Idol host, Ryan Seacrest. “We’ve been talking about it for years, and just never made it a priority,” Pickler admitted in a recent interview with Rolling Stone Country, adding, “With Ryan it just felt right.”
Tentatively titled I Love Kellie Pickler, the series will follow the 28-year-old singer and her songwriting husband, Kyle Jacobs, as they navigate their love life and musical careers. If you are at all familiar with the I Love Lucy series, you can see where Pickler draws the comparisons. “I was a huge fan of Lucille Ball and her funny shenanigans with Ethel and poor Ricky would have to get her out of. We want to play off that type of comedy — lighthearted but natural situations that I get into — and marry that to a Friends-type feel.”
As for the Friends feel, although their lives are heavily influenced by their music, they are hoping that the show will reflect more than that. “We laugh so much. We have Redneck Supper Club dinner parties at our house and grill out.” Sounds like all they are missing is a cozy coffee shop hang-out, like the famous Central Perk.
The 10-episode series, which will begin shooting in late April or early May, is still in the early stages. “We’re in the creative process right now. We did a little sizzle reel, and then we went to pitch the sizzle reel, we were just so lucky to go forward.”
Though the show will unlikely feature Pickler peddling Vitameatavegamin or taking a temp job at a chocolate factory (both scenarios occurred in episodes of I Love Lucy), it will undoubtedly be entertaining and highly quotable. “I think people know that pretty much what you see is what you get with me,” she said with a laugh. “I’m sure I’ll say things I’ll regret, but that’s part of life. That’s part of growin’ up.”
