Although Joey + Rory are nominated for a Grammy this year, the duo will not be in attendance at the Feb. 15 ceremony.
In a new post shared on Rory Feek’s blog, This Life I Live, he revealed that his daughters from a previous marriage, Heidi and Hopie, will represent them at the awards.
Feek hopes his daughters will spend the evening “seeing and even meeting some of their musical heroes and having a wonderful time, and raising a glass and toasting to their mom and dad and this extraordinary, ordinary life we are all living.”
Rory will stay by his wife’s side as she continues at-home hospice care. Last year, the Feeks traveled to her hometown in Indiana to enjoy her final days together after doctors found that her cervical cancer was terminal. Joey pushed for her husband to attend the awards, even buying a plane ticket which he later cancelled. Instead, he says there’s nowhere he’d rather be than beside her on Grammy night.
“I have done many foolish things and made lots of mistakes in my life, but this isn’t going to be one of them,” he explained. “Instead, I will be sitting beside her and cheering on Little Big Town, and Blake Shelton and Charles [Kelley] and all the talented folks who are nominated in our category and others.”
The Feeks are nominated for their song “If I Needed You” in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category. Even fellow nominee Blake Shelton has said he hopes he’ll lose out to the duo, who are very much deserving of a happy moment during this difficult time.
The 58th annual Grammy Awards are set to air Feb. 15 live on CBS, and Wide Open Country will have a full report on the evening following the ceremony.
