As Joey + Rory endure an incredibly challenging time in their personal lives, they are taking a moment to celebrate an incredible achievement in their musical careers.
Earlier this morning, the 2016 Grammy Awards nominations were announced. For the first time ever, the country duo and their track “If I Needed You” are in the running for the Best Country Duo / Group Performance category.
Joey Feek’s struggle with terminal cervical cancer has put an unexpected spotlight on the couple in recent months. Rory took to the couple’s Facebook page to show his gratitude and share the importance of the moment for he and his wife with their fans.
“Woke my bride up this morning with a baby in my arms and the news that our version of “If I Needed You” was nominated for a Grammy,” Rory wrote. “As her excitement and tears flowed into mine. She said, ‘How can that be?’ The song received no radio airplay… no press… no critical acclaim… and the only music video we made for it was to celebrate the day our little Indiana was born.”
The important nod from the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences is one that came at just the right time for the Feeks, who are in need of some good news to hold onto. “God is so good,” he writes. “Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
