In previous years, Joey and Rory Feek have enjoyed romantic dinners at their Tennessee farmhouse on Valentine’s Day. This year, Joey’s terminal cancer forced Rory to alter his plans.
In a photo posted to Joey + Rory‘s Facebook account (see above), the dedicated couple are shown sharing a gentle kiss. Although she is confined to a hospital bed, Joey is seen wearing a flowered corsage while surrounded by a beautiful Valentine’s Day meal prepared by her husband. “Happy Valentine’s Day, my love,” the simple but powerful caption reads.
Just a day before, Rory Feek described his plans for the big day through a post on his blog, This Life I Live.
“My hope this year instead is to hold her hand and take her on a ‘virtual’ walk down memory lane together, with pictures and videos on my laptop,” he wrote. “I want to take her back to where our lives first began together, and relive this beautiful journey that God has taken us on, from that first song she heard me sing at the Bluebird Cafe, to the last one we sang together as we stood on stage and took our final bow, to the songs that she will leave behind here on earth and the ones she will soon sing for eternity to our sweet Lord in that heavenly choir up yonder.”
Tonight (Feb. 15) marks another special milestone for the couple, who will watch from Indiana as the Grammy Awards are held in Los Angeles. Their daughters will be there to represent them at the ceremony, where they are nominated for their song “If I Needed You” in the Best Country Duo/Group Performance category. Although they are up against some stiff competition, the Feeks are simply content with the fact that Joey will get to see their music be honored by the Grammys one last time.
