The recent news of Joey + Rory‘s surprise Grammy nomination has given new hope to Joey Feek as she continues to struggle with terminal cervical cancer.
Shortly after receiving the news that they had been nominated in the Best Duo/Group Performance for category for their single “If I Needed You,” Rory Feek told The Tennessean that the news had given the couple a new goal – to attend the 2016 Grammy Awards together.
“Joey and I woke (Monday) morning just thankful for the chance to have another day to be together,” Rory Feek said. “That was enough. When you honestly don’t know what tomorrow will bring, you don’t think any farther than today. But hearing the news brought not only tears and smiles, it has brought us hope.”
“She’s so faith-filled and determined,” Rory said of his wife, “don’t be surprised if you see us sitting in the audience at the award show, holding hands and smiling when they open the ballot and read the winner’s name.”
Joey Feek is currently in hospice care at her family’s Indiana home. She was originally diagnosed with cervical cancer in the summer of 2014, but was eliminated after intensive treatment. In October, the duo shared the news with fans that her cancer had returned. In November, the Feeks decided to cease medical treatment after the cancer spread to other areas of her body.
In recent weeks, the country music community has gathered together to support the Feeks during this difficult time. Dolly Parton, Reba McEntire and Brenda Lee recently contributed messages of love and prayers to a video tribute which aired on Thanksgiving day.
