If there’s one thing that southerners take seriously, it’s their food. From smooth and buttery grits to perfectly cooked greens, there are some comfort foods that are a staple of most households below the Mason-Dixon line. It’s hard to imagine that there are millions of people out there who have never experienced the wonders of southern cuisine, but what happens when those folks get their first taste of greatness?
In this hilarious video from Facts, a group of Irish food lovers gather to experience some of the south’s best foods. If you’ve never tasted it before, it could easily be difficult to see the true beauty of a crunchy chicken gizzard or a nice bowl of grits.
Although most were cautious before chowing down, many of the participants were pleasantly surprised at just how delicious each dish was. Gumbo was an all-around favorite, while many couldn’t get past the “chewy” consistency of collard greens. Of course, they may have had a change of heart if they had a truly authentic version of each meal. I mean honestly, who doesn’t put at least a little bit of butter in their grits?
Still, the video gives some hilarious insight to the way southern food is seen by others around the world.
