Iraq War Vet Dances to Toby Keith’s ‘American Soldier’ on ‘Dancing With the Stars’

Noah Galloway brought the whole house to tears, including several judges, after his moving performance.

Dancing With the Stars is known to feature fun, uplifting performances. On Monday night, veteran Noah Galloway brought the audience and several judges to tears with his moving performance and powerful story.

The Alabama native was three months into his second tour of duty during Operation Iraqi Freedom when he incurred a life-changing injury. During a routine patrol, his vehicle hit an Improvised Explosive Device, which hurled his vehicle into the air. He survived but lost his left arm above the elbow and left leg above the knee.

On Monday night’s episode of Dancing With the Stars, Galloway told his story of recovery, descent into alcoholism, and ultimately, redemption. He chose to perform to Toby Keith’s “American Soldier,” and it was a perfect complement to his story.

Keith has long supported active duty military personnel, veterans and their families. He said this song inspired by and written for the troops he met during his many USO tours.

After Galloway recovered and left the Army, he became a personal trainer and motivational speaker. He also competes in adventure races such as Tough Mudder, Spartan events, CrossFit competitions and 5K and 10K races.

Galloway is now a public speaker, sharing his story with audiences of all ages and encouraging his audience to offer “no excuses.”
