Ice Road Truckers star Darrell Ward has died in a plane crash at the age of 52.
The crash happened while flying over Montana, near the town of Rock Creek. Currently, authorities know very little about the cause of the crash, but an investigation is still ongoing. An unnamed co-pilot also perished in the wreck.
“We are saddened by the tragic loss of Darrell Ward, a beloved member of the HISTORY family,” the History Channel said in statement to People. “He will be greatly missed and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
Darrell had just finished filming season 10 of Ice Road Truckers. During the show, he transported huge loads down ice covered roads to remote areas of Canada and Alaska. He first got his start with the show back in season 4.
At the time of the crash, Darrell was heading to his home state of Montana from Dallas, Texas, where he had met with fans at The Great American Truck Show. Ironically, Ward was set to begin filming a documentary on recovering plane wrecks once he returned to Montana.
