Watch Maren Morris' Raw, Stripped-Down Performance of 'I Wish I Was'

Sometimes it's just hard to beat an acoustic guitar and a great voice. In her recent performance of "I Wish I Was," Maren Morris proves that point perfectly.

The video was shot for the Next Women Of Country Live series. CMT launched the online-only videos as a way to further promote some of the top female acts in country music.

Morris performed "I Wish I Was" with nothing more than her beautiful vocals and Gibson Hummingbird acoustic guitar. The standout track first appeared on Morris' independent EP in 2015. After signing with Sony, she re-released it on her breakthrough debut album Hero.

In fact, the tune features the lyric that inspired the album name. "I'm not the hero in the story," Morris sings. "I'm not the girl that gets the glory." But if her ascension to country music newcomer stardom is any indication, she's getting plenty of glory now.

The new video series from CMT launched last week. In the first installment, Kelsea Ballerini performed the final track from her debut album, "Underage." Other performances coming down the pipeline include Jana Kramer and Maggie Rose.

Morris is still riding high off a whirlwind year. Since releasing her debut album in June 2016, Morris snagged multiple awards and nominations.

Billboard announced Morris as their Women In Music Breakthrough Artist for 2016. She also received five nominations at the CMA Awards, making her the most-nominated artist of the year. Morris then appeared in the CMT's series Crossroads, singing songs alongside pop and R&B superstar Alicia Keys.

She landed the New Artist of the Year award at the CMA Awards in 2016. She then received four Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist and Best Country Album.

Most recently, the Grammys announced Morris will perform on stage at the Grammy Awards on Feb. 12.
