Americana foursome Star & Micey are one of the most interesting new acts to come out of Memphis, one of the nation’s hotbeds of roots music. Their sound is a whimsical mix of Memphis-style rock-and-roll and indie pop.
The band will release their album, Get ‘Em Next Time, on 3/11 via Thirty Tigers, the distribution group that reps Sturgill Simpson, Jason Isbell and Aaron Watson. We have the exclusive premiere of the album’s first single, “I Can’t Wait”, which you can listen to in the player below.
The track sounds like a cross between the rockabilly bounciness of Jerry Lee Lewis and the pop hooks of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes. It’s a curious style given the song’s subject matter.
“This song was written on the edge of a swamp in Mississippi about the hope my brother would come home safe from prison,” said singer Nick Redmond.
Fans of both 50s-era rock-and-roll and modern folk-pop groups like the Lumineers will really enjoy this one.
