The owner of Killen’s Burgers is sending its patrons one hefty apology. Chef Ronnie Killen feels that the opening of his burger joint last May failed to meet his own expectations, and he wants customers to know he’s planning to do something about it.
This Saturday (Oct. 8) from 11 a.m. until closing, Killen’s will give away one free burger to every customer as their way of saying sorry. Killen expects to use 3,000 pounds of meat, yielding roughly 4,500 burgers.
The restaurant’s grand opening was back in May on National Burger Day. Customers were so enthusiastic they began lining up two hours prior to the opening. In the weeks following the store opening there were long wait times and service inconsistencies. Since then Chef Killen and his employees have been trying hard to improve the experience. Now, they’re ready to show off the changes. Oh, and if free burgers wasn’t enough, Killen is throwing in some free beer too.
Part of the appeal of the burger joint is that they make everything in the restaurant. “Everything at Killen’s Burger will be made from scratch, including our hot dogs,” Killen told the Pearland Journal. “We will grind meat in front of our customers so that they can watch their food being made from start to finish.”
