Wilile Nelson Blvd. Sam Cooke Way. Tom Petty Way. Add George Jones to the list of legendary musicians with roadways named after them. Except Jones just got a highway.
A section of Tennessee State Route 96 that runs through 10 counties, from Dickson to Granville, is now the George Jones Memorial Highway.
If you want to drive the highway, consider riding it on a tractor — you’d make The Possum proud.
Williamson County Mayor Rogers Anderson, who announced the highway renaming, is also commemorating the legendary singer with the celebration of George Jones Day.
The holiday and the newly named highway aren’t the only new tributes to Jones. Last April, a museum honoring Jones’ life and career opened in Nashville. And, a biopic about Jones’ life, No Show Jones, which Jones started writing six years ago, is in the works. His wife, Nancy Jones, is helping finish the script. Were curious to see who will play Jones.
