Zac Brown pays tribute to his beloved grandmother in his touching new track, “Grandma’s Garden.”
The heartwarming cut is Brown’s contribution to producer Dave Cobb’s upcoming concept album, Southern Family. The release is a curated collection of recordings from some of Nashville’s best artists, including Morgane and Chris Stapleton, Anderson East and Miranda Lambert, that are centered around each individual artist’s unique experience of growing up in the south.
Southern Family has become one of the most highly-anticipated releases for 2016, and for good reason. Every song on the album has evolved out of a deeply personal place, but “Grandma’s Garden” has a unique sentimentality that will connect with country music listeners instantly. During a recent secret listening party for the album in Nashville, many were driven to tears by the song’s resoundingly emotional message.
Although Zac Brown’s recent releases have teetered further toward the pop spectrum, this purely country track once again shows his incredible gift of artistry and ability to tell a story through his songwriting.
Southern Family will be released on March 18, but you can hear Zac Brown’s touching new track, “Grandma’s Garden” below.
