Hear Willie Nelson's New Song for the Weekend Warrior, 'Ready to Roar'

Between festival appearances, seemingly endless tour dates and a recording schedule that would tire out an artist half his age, Willie Nelson has proven again and again that he has no interest in slowing down. Now he's released a song about exactly that. "Ready to Roar" is a carefree, impish tune about working for the weekend. And when the weekend finally rolls around, Willie's going to get wild.

"I've been pickin' this up and puttin' that down/ tired of my boss bossin' me around," he sings. "Changin' my clothes and goin' into town/ to light a little up and drink a little down."

Willie Nelson's latest album, Last Man Standing, comes out on April 27 — just two days before the country legend's 85th birthday. In February, Nelson shared the tongue-in-cheek title track, which addressed his own mortality and the loss of some of his closest friends. In March, he released the hopeful "Me and You," a tribute to the value of friendship in uncertain times. Earlier this month, the singer shared the somber, consoling "Something You Get Through." All of the videos have given an inside look at Nelson and crew at work in the studio.

In May, Nelson will kick off his Outlaw Music Festival Tour with special guests Sturgill Simpson, Alison Krauss, Neil Young and more. On July 4, he'll stop in Austin for his annual Fourth of July Picnic.

"Ready to Roar" Lyrics:

Get down the fiddle and break out the bow
Take off the gloves and throw down the hoe
Worked hard all week, by back is sore
But it's Friday night and I'm ready to roar

Ready to roar, ready to roar
It's Friday night and I'm ready to roar
I'm hot and dusty and I'm tire and wore
But it's Friday night and I'm ready to roar

I've been pickin' this up and puttin' that down
Tired of my boss bossin' me around
I'm changin' my clothes and headin' into town
To light a little up and drink a little down

Ready to roar, ready to roar
It's Friday night and I'm ready to roar
I'm hot and dusty and I'm tire and wore
But it's Friday night and I'm ready to roar

Well I picked up a lid from a friend of a mine
Then a man picked me up, now I'm doin' time
But I'll get out tomorrow and if you see my friend
Tell him meet me at the bar and we can try that again
He might not know me 'cause I'm low class
Tell him I'm the one with his head up his ass

(Repeat chorus)
