The Newport Folk Festival is called a “folk” festival, but it’s really a celebration of visionary American music. In the 60s, it was where Bob Dylan debuted his shift from acoustic to electric, forever altering the musical landscape. Several other famed artists have made breakthroughs at the festival over the years. Getting invited to play at the festival means you’re doing something visionary with your music.
So it’s no wonder that country’s most buzzed-about artist, Sturgill Simpson, took the stage at this year’s Festival. Simpson undoubtedly has one of the best country shows touring the U.S.
If you’ve been itching to catch his show, or just enjoy his music, you’re in luck. NPR recently shared Sturgill Simpson’s full Newport Folks Festival set. You can listen to it below. Enjoy!
