Hear Kris Kristofferson’s Haunting Cover of Tom Petty’s ‘Won’t Back Down’

Kris Kristofferson puts a somber spin on a Tom Petty classic for a new History Channel miniseries.

Kris Kristofferson has recorded a haunting and memorable version of Tom Petty’s classic track, “Won’t Back Down.” The song can be heard on the soundtrack for the upcoming miniseries, Texas Rising. The five-night television event dramatically tells the tale of Texas’s struggle for independence after the fall of the Alamo.

In the promotional video, shots of Kristofferson recording the song in a studio are interspersed with clips of the series. Texas Rising looks to be filled with bloody gun battles, tense and emotional relationships and beautiful scenery.

The miniseries’ soundtrack also features the song, “Take Me to Texas,” which is performed by George Strait and written by Brandy Clark.

Texas Rising premieres May 25 at 9 p.m. ET on the History Channel.
