Keith Urban has released a brand new single, “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16.”
The fun, up-tempo track that celebrates the influences of musical and pop culture icons from the past was written by Shane McAnally, Ross Copperman and Josh Osborne. Urban performed it for the first time in February during an industry seminar in Nashville and received overwhelmingly positive feedback.
“‘John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16’ was sent to me a few months ago by one of the songwriters and I loved it immediately – loved it so much that right before I walked out on stage at the Ryman for CRS [Country Radio Seminar] a few months back, I thought I’d play the song solo acoustic to see what the audience thought,” Urban said in a press release. “Flash forward and there’s no doubt that their response that day helped make it the first single from what will be my next album.”
Urban will debut the song on national television during this week’s 2015 CMT Music Awards, which will be broadcast live from Nashville’s Bridgestone Arena at 8/7 CT on CMT. A full recap of Urban’s performance and all the events from the big night will be posted on Wide Open Country following the ceremony.
