Kacey Musgraves has become an expert at mixing traditional country with her own modern-day flair. That unique quality shines through every line of her rendition of Buck Owens‘ 1963 hit, “Love’s Gonna Live Here.”
Musgraves recorded the lively cover with celebrated producer and songwriter Buddy Miller during the 2015 Cayamo cruise last January. The annual voyage features performances from some of the best and brightest stars from across country and Americana.
Instead of bringing a cheesy, retro feel to the song, the track feels fresh and updated thanks to Musgraves’ twangy vocals and peppy acoustic accompaniment. For many younger country fans, the recording serves as a great introduction to one of the best and most overlooked tracks from country music’s early days.
Miller’s new album also features a stellar cover of Loretta Lynn and Conway Twitty‘s classic “After the Fire Is Gone,” featuring Lee Ann Womack. Kris Kristofferson, Nikki Lane, Brandi Carlile and the Lone Bellow are just a few of the talented artists also featured on the new compilation.
