The Beach Boy founder and country trailblazin’ Texan make quite the unlikely duo….but we love it.
Kacey Musgraves plowed into the country music scene in 2013 with her controversial tongue-in-cheek smash single “Merry Go’ Round.” Now after a CMA Award for Artist of the Year, two Grammy Awards for Best Country Album and Best Country Song, an ACM Award for Song of the Year and countless nominations, it’s safe to say that Miss Musgraves has proven herself in the world of country music. Not only has she captured the hearts of millions of fans, she’s caught the attention of the legendary Beach Boys founder, Brian Wilson
The brunette country beauty lends her chops to the verses in Brian Wilson’s song “Guess You Had to Be There” off his upcoming album No Pier Pressure. The sweet silky song keeps a country sound with naturally beautiful layering and sprinkles of banjo. The unlikely pair proves to make perfect sense in this summertime tune.
Wilson, known for being critical of studio musicians, tells Rolling Stone, “When it’s good it’s good, when it’s not — do it again. But after three tries, Kacey nailed it. I like the way she just slides over the notes — she has a very cool sound.”
The album will also feature collaborations from Fun’s Nate Ruess, She & Him (Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward) and Wilson’s Beach Boys bandmates Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin and David Marks. The album will be released in two versions: a 13-track deluxe CD and a 16-track vinyl.
Keep a look out for Kacey Musgraves’ scrumptious new single “Biscuits” off her sophomore album and check her out at this year’s Bonnaroo, a four-day event that kicks off June 11.
