Gary Allan throws back to old-school R&B sounds with his new single, “Hangover Tonight.”
Allan’s new single sounds more like 60’s soul than country but the result feels natural, and that’s no coincidence. The hitmaker has always drawn inspiration from the Motown era.
“I feel like this is the fourth or fifth time I’ve reinvented myself, or tried to push myself to do different things,” Allan told Rolling Stone Country. “I feel like I have pushed myself into a very comfortable place because it is kind of Fifties and Sixties Motown.”
The song was co-written by Allan, Jesse Frasure, Cary Barlowe and Chris Stapleton, who also lends back-up vocals. “Hangover Tonight” is the first single from Allan’s upcoming album, which expected sometime later this year.
