When Eric Paslay booked a show at Nashville’s Marathon Music Works earlier this month, he promised he had a few surprises in store for concertgoers. One of the most memorable moments of the night came when Little Big Town‘s Karen Fairchild joined him onstage to perform their new duet, “Taking My Heart Higher”.
The groovy guitar-driven track has an instantaneously catchy quality that will likely help it skyrocket up the charts if it’s released as a single. It was one of the standout moments during the sold-out show, which also featured appearances from Jake Owen, Chris Young, Mickey Guyton and Amy Grant.
“@ericpaslay, your new record is amazing!! Thanks for asking me to join you tonight,” Fairchild posted, along with a photo of the performance, through her Instagram account after the show. “What a voice and talent … and who knew you were such a good dancer?!”
Paslay has been playing the song regularly with accompaniment from fellow rising star Cam during their recent jaunt as support for Brad Paisley’s Crushin’ It World Tour. Cam was actually scheduled to perform with Paslay, but had to pull out due to illness – which was likely the reason behind Fairchild’s appearance. Although Karen’s voice is strong, Cam’s rendition really hits out of the ballpark.
Even if Fairchild isn’t tapped for the recorded version of the song, I think she’ll do just fine. She’s already topping the country charts with her other duet partner and longtime friend, Luke Bryan. Their track, “Home Alone Tonight,” is currently spending its first week at number one the Billboard Country Airplay chart.
