Granger Smith Credits His Fans for ‘Backroad Song’ Success

Granger Smith says word of mouth from his dedicated fans is the reason for his new single’s rapid success.

Independent artist Granger Smith‘s new single, “Backroad Song,” has gained a lot of buzz since its recent release. In an interview with Billboard, Smith credits word of mouth from his dedicated fans for the track’s rapid ascent up the charts.

“Backroad Song” is the first single from his new EP 4×4, out may May 4. The single sold over 2,000 downloads in its first week of release and landed at number four on the Billboard Country Digital Songs chart. This also the first time one of Smith’s singles has reached the top 10 on the digital singles chart.

“I’ve never gotten a single into the top 10 on the iTunes chart before; this is the first time,” Smith explained. “It just popped out and started shooting up the chart. I started to think, ‘Wow. We’ve got something here.'”

The fun and infectious song is one that is easily accessible to most country fans, even if they aren’t familiar with Smith as an artist. Although he has been independently releasing music since 1998, thanks to a changing industry and evolving technology, more people have been able to discover and connect  with Smith’s music than ever before. The impressive impact “Backroad Song” has already made shows how much fans’ support affects the success of an artist’s release.

“It’s a testament to how loyal our fans are, and they have always been so great at telling their friends about us and spreading the word,” Smith said. “They are so vocal about it.”

His new EP was produced by Frank Rogers, a well-known figure in Nashville who has worked with artists like Trace Adkins, Brad Paisley and Darryl Worley.

With this much support behind him, more success is sure to be in store for Smith. Although fans will have to wait until May for his new EP, “Backroad Song” is available for download now on iTunes.
