A creative grandfather decided to convert his Kentucky farm’s old grain silo into a lasting gift for his young granddaughter.
For years, Rusty Combs dreamed of building the perfect play house for his children. Although that day never came, he saw an opportunity to fulfill his dreams with the birth of his granddaughter Kiley. He constructed a beautiful 12×12 cabin that evolved into to something much bigger.
“It really did get designed along the way,” Combs told Wave NBC. “It started out about two years ago as a two-month project.”
Once it was completed, he used a crane to life it to its final location atop his grain silo, which now holds a spiral staircase that reaches the entrance to the mini cabin. The unconventional placement allows for an incredible view from the house’s front porch.
The dream play house has electricity and air-conditioning, just like a true dream house should. Combs says he couldn’t have completed the project without the help of his neighbors.
“All my immediate neighbors have been fantastic,” he says. “I think every single one of them has come and helped me on it from time to time.”
Although little Kiley is a little too young to fully enjoy the house, Combs looks forward to the day he can make memories with her inside the adorable cabin in the sky. “I hope she enjoys if for many years to come,” he says.
