Country superstar and bonafide Texas institution George Strait raised $1.1 million for wounded warriors earlier this month through his sixth annual Vaqueros Del Mar Golf Tournament and Auction.
Strait hosts the event with his longtime friend Tom Cusick. The event was held at The Resort at Tapatio Springs Hill Country Resort at the beginning of November.
The event featured a few notable celebrities, including PGA Tour champion Jordan Spieth and country singer Jamey Johnson, who wrote “Give It Away” and a new George Strait song that has yet to be released.
After the tournament, Johnson and Strait played a concert followed by a live auction.
Proceeds from the event will go to Feherty’s Troops First Foundation, a nonprofit that benefits veterans who have been injured in combat. Rick Kell and former PGA golfer David Feherty founded the organization in 2008. Strait has partnered with the nonprofit to give back to wounded service men and women.
This year they’ve raised more than $3.3 million.
