George Strait Gets Huge Honor from the State of Texas

Country superstar George Strait will receive an incredible award from the Lone Star State later this week.

On May 18, Strait will be appointed as 2017's Texas State Musician by the Texas State Legislature. He was originally nominated for the award through a public vote. The final selection was later chosen by the Texas Commission on the Arts.

"It's a great honor for me to be selected as Texas State Musician of 2017 and join this very prestigious list of other honorees," Strait said in a statement. "I'm a very proud Texan and love to sing the praises of our great state every chance I get. Thank you very, very much."

Other artists who have been named the Texas State Musician of the year include Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons.
