The still-untitled project will feature collaborative covers of the couple’s favorite holiday classics. Although details are scarce, Brooks says he’s excited for fans to hear his wife’s powerhouse performances on the album.
“To hear her do ‘What Are You Doing New Year’s Eve?’ is like, ‘Oh my God!’” Brooks said. “It was supposed to be a duet… About 30 seconds into the song I just walked out of the studio because I knew it wasn’t going to be a duet. I wasn’t about to open my mouth after that, you know?”
Brooks continued praising his wife and longtime duet partner, celebrating her unique take on the beloved holiday classic. “It’s just her doing her greatest Ella [Fitzgerald], you know, impersonation with Trisha kinda mixed in there… It was amazing!”
Although there’s no release date for the album, the superstar couple are likely aiming to have the project ready by the 2016 holiday season. Until then, they’ll continue their nationwide trek with Brooks’ record-breaking world tour, which picks back up in Baltimore, Md. on Jan. 22.
