An abandoned fawn and an Australian Shepherd puppy have become best friends for life, thanks to the kindness of one German family.
A baby deer, now named Hansi, was found roaming helplessly by some farmers in Regensburg, Germany. Without a mother to care for the fawn, the farmers knew that he could not be left by himself. They took the sweet animal to a family in town who helped clean up and care for Hansi. The family’s 12-week-old puppy instantly took a liking to the fawn and treated him as though he was one of his own.
Pet photographer Anna Auerbach captured these heartwarming shots of the two new friends at their new home. It was obvious as she shot the photos that the two were going to be inseparable. “The two of them get along really well,” Auerbach told Express. “Hansi sees Lia and the other dogs she is being brought up with as family.”
Three weeks after the fawn was rescued, the two follow each other everywhere, and even share a milk bottle. Hansi now has an entire family to keep him safe and loved for years to come. It’s an incredibly happy ending to a story that could have had a tragic ending. If you’re an animal lover, this incredible friendship may just bring a tear (or several) to your eyes.
