This Automated Chicken Coop Does All the Chores

Keeping chickens at home can take up a lot of time and attention. This was something Imgur DIY-er avgfitfreak quickly discovered when he decided to adopt a few chickens. Since hiring someone to watch his chickens wasn’t an option, he needed a way to care for them even when he was away. So, he did some research online and came up with an incredible automated chicken coop design he named The Lazy Coop.

His invention automates all of the chores that normally come with raising your own chickens.

His first chore was to find a way to let his chickens out of the coop automatically. To do this, he included a solar powered motorized door that works off of a timer. At the designated time, the motor will lift the door and allow the chickens to leave the coop.

This system helps make the coop extremely energy-efficient and great for the environment.

After designing his solar power system, he found a unique way to mount it. He did this by using leftover parts he found in his shed.

Feeding and watering his chickens is also a huge priority, and he designed this gravity feeder, that he now only needs to fill once a week. As the chickens eat, more food and water will pour into the food trough.

There are plenty of reasons you should consider raising chickens in your own chicken coop. For starters, the quality of the eggs you’ll get is far greater than what you’d ever get from a grocery store. You also have the benefit of knowing what your chickens eat, which can affect the taste and quality of the egg.

So, are you ready to give chicken ownership a try?
